Exchange Rate: USD $1 = 7.057 Chinese Yuan Renminbi (October 31, 2019)

Lodging: The lodging charge applies to on-campus housing only in the international student dorm, which is not guaranteed. Students living in off-campus housing should expect to pay between $2,440 - $4,000 USD. The actual amount should be based on the rental agreement and is to be calculated individually by the student. Tsinghua SEM does not offer service in finding off-campus apartments for incoming exchange students.

Personal Expenses: This estimate is meant to cover general expenses of college life, including additional course supplies, photocopying, toiletries, snacks, cell phone, etc. Personal expenses do not include any entertainment or vacation travel costs.

Local Transportation: Methods of local transportation include bicycle, bus, metro and taxi.

Books and Supplies: N/A

Visa Fee: Students may be required to appear in-person at their local Chinese consulate or embassy to apply for a student visa. If you do not live close to a Chinese Embassy or consulate, you may find it advantageous to use a visa agent, such as CiBT.

Additional Program Information: The $60 registration fee is required by Tsinghua University. The health insurance fee is a Chinese Ministry of Education policy. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, every international student who studies in China should be covered with a medical insurance and join the group medical insurance scheme designated by the university/college, meeting the fundamental medical insurance standard.
