Cost Estimate Preparation: This cost estimate was prepared on October 20, 2021 for the Spring 2022 semester. These costs are approximations and are subject to change.

NOTE: This budget sheet is only valid for the Spring 2022 RLASP Kazakhstan program. In most years, this program and associated budget sheet are aimed at Russian programming; however, due to global health and travel circumstances, this program is operating in Kazakhstan for Spring 2022.

Exchange Rate: USD $1 = 426.52 Kazakhastani Tenge (as of October 20, 2022)

Lodging and Meals: The lodging and meals fee is for placement with host family or in a university dormitory. Home stay students eat breakfast and dinner in the home and students living in a dorm get a meal plan for two meals a day; the Supplemental Meals fee line item is the estimate for meals not covered by RLASP. RLASP charges Penn Abroad this amount, which Penn Abroad puts on your Penn.Pay account.

Personal Expenses: This estimate is meant to cover general expenses of college life, including additional course supplies, photocopying, toiletries, snacks, cell phone, etc. Personal expenses do not include any entertainment or vacation travel costs.

Local Transportation: Cost of monthly ticket at student price for duration of program.

Books and Supplies: No additional information.

Round Trip Flight: The pre-departure orientation held in Washington, DC immediately before the program is mandatory. The round-trip flight estimate is from Washington, DC to Moscow and does not include transportation from your city of origin to Washington, DC.

Additional Program Information: RLASP requires a deposit for this program. Penn Abroad pays the determined amount on behalf of Penn students as a courtesy. If the student does not participate in the program, they will be billed by the University of Pennsylvania to cover the deposit. Additional withdrawal fees may apply depending on the date of withdrawal. RLASP charges Penn Abroad for housing, the visa fee, and health insurance; this cost is then put on your Penn.Pay account. The cost listed above for these items is an estimate based on previous years' costs.

COVID-19 Additional Costs: This item references additional costs at the student’s expense related to traveling abroad during COVID-19 including: pre-arrival COVID-19 testing, post-arrival COVID-19 testing, vaccination requirements, quarantine requirements, COVID-19 testing before return home, and any additional costs a student may incur as a result of health and safety guidance during their abroad program. This cost is an estimate based on known information at your abroad location as of October 2021. A student’s actual additional costs related to COVID-19 expenses may be higher or lower than what is projected in this line item.
